Kindergarten graduation!

Sorry, this is an old post but since I was looking at my pics, I realized I never shared these!

Our big girl Evie graduate from Kindergarten a few weeks ago. She had a great run at Newport Children's School - she loves the friends that she's made and really enjoyed all of the teachers she's had. We've liked them too! We're happy that we kept her there for one more year because I think she's learned a lot and is a much more confident little girl now, ready to take on first grade at a new school. The teachers had nothing but nice things to say about Evie when I went for the last parent-teacher conference of the year. They told me she's a bright, fun, easy-going girl who is friends with everyone in the class and not afraid to raise her hand in class to answer questions. I hope that continues next year! In Kindergarten, she mastered writing all of her letters and numbers (both upper and lower), can read pretty simple books (Level 1 and 2), is attempting to do cursive, can do simple addition and subtraction and counting by multiples.

Here's a few snaps of her Graduation ceremony. The kids were really cute and sang several songs that we've been practicing non-stop at home - Light My Way by Owl City and Try Everything by Shakira. Both have great lyrics and is very upbeat and age appropriate. Funny though that as much as Evie LOVES those songs, she couldn't look more bored singing on stage. Oh well, she really enjoyed the home-made apple pie afterwards to celebrate!

The graduate!

The kids sang "Light My Way" and "Try Everything". oh oh oh oh oh!

Evie had a solo line - "hypothetically speaking, of course!".
I don't think she understood what she was saying.

Do you see Evie's goofy smile?

Pretty graduate!

Don't they look so alike here?

With her teachers Miss Robertson and Miss Kim.

and with Grammy's homemade apple pie for dessert!

Happy new year!!

Goodness, it's already 2025! It's been a really long time since we posted!  We had a very lazy new year. We flew back from LA on the evening of the 31st so spent the last remaining hours of 2024 cozying up on the couch and then fell asleep before it even hit midnight! On New Years day, we slept in, cleaned up the house and then did a quick hike the next day. All in all, a good start to the year! Nora's new blanket hoodie. Cold and muddy trails. We're not in LA anymore! We hiked the Primrose trail that follows Coal Creek.

Eating on the road

With all the COVID restrictions on restaurants and Scott not liking takeout service, we've gotten pretty good at planning meals for days we are out and about. We've basically taken to tailgating... a lot! It is nice though that it means having a hot meal to warm up after a day of playing in the snow and I'm not going to lie - it is also a good excuse to eat instant noodles because it is fast and easy and warming!   For overnight stays, we end up doing instant pot meals like one-pot spaghetti or chili, or easy meals like a cheese plate or sandwiches. It does save on $ so that's definitely nice but man, I can't wait to go out to restaurants again! Beef and barley soup lunch at Mt Baker. Chillin' with Chili at Crystal Mountain. Beautiful but cold picnic in Wenatchee Little girl loving her hot ramen over Blewitt Pass Jook after sledding at Crystale Springs Chicken Noodle Soup in the snow at Salmon Ridge. Pho bowls under the ferry awning at Diablo Lake.

Glass art

We picked up our finished creations from the glass blowing class we took a few weeks ago and I think they came out great! Can you tell who made which one? Nora's sunset pumpkin, May's bluebird and Evie's snow pumpkin.
