MA-ZA-MA!

It's been a few years since we visited Methow Valley (see post from 2016 here), and since the kids are way better at skiing now, we all have gear, and we love this area, we booked a non-refundable trip out to this ski heaven a few months back and then crossed our fingers for snow. Well, we didn't get snow but we DID get a super fun weekend hanging out in a neato, modern, container-style like cabin right on the trails and we all got some great practice runs in. Just in time too because the snow really wasn't great - bare patches were starting to show so I'm pretty sure this was the last weekend for skiing. They typically groom trails through April but not this year!

Anyway, here's some pics of our fun weekend. Methow Valley (where Mazama is located) is the largest cross-country trail system in the lower 48 with 120 miles of trails, and our rental was right on one of the loops so it was so easy to do a few loops and then come back in to rest. We're already thinking of next year's trip. Mazama books out a year in advance so we have to plan now!

Sunny days (40s), but icy cold (20s) at night.

Nora would ski in a tshirt if I let her.

Scott and I did some longer runs on our own.

The thaw-by-day-and-ice-at night routine makes for interesting patterns in the snow.

Freshly groomed tracks!

Rewarded with screen time in the evening

We went into Winthrop for lunch one day and had to take this classic photo.

The field outside our rental. You can see it way off in the distance.

I took this pic from our rental. The kids grabbed chairs so they can cheer on skiers who went by. That's the trail that we can ski-in-out of.

Happy new year!!

Goodness, it's already 2025! It's been a really long time since we posted!  We had a very lazy new year. We flew back from LA on the evening of the 31st so spent the last remaining hours of 2024 cozying up on the couch and then fell asleep before it even hit midnight! On New Years day, we slept in, cleaned up the house and then did a quick hike the next day. All in all, a good start to the year! Nora's new blanket hoodie. Cold and muddy trails. We're not in LA anymore! We hiked the Primrose trail that follows Coal Creek.

Eating on the road

With all the COVID restrictions on restaurants and Scott not liking takeout service, we've gotten pretty good at planning meals for days we are out and about. We've basically taken to tailgating... a lot! It is nice though that it means having a hot meal to warm up after a day of playing in the snow and I'm not going to lie - it is also a good excuse to eat instant noodles because it is fast and easy and warming!   For overnight stays, we end up doing instant pot meals like one-pot spaghetti or chili, or easy meals like a cheese plate or sandwiches. It does save on $ so that's definitely nice but man, I can't wait to go out to restaurants again! Beef and barley soup lunch at Mt Baker. Chillin' with Chili at Crystal Mountain. Beautiful but cold picnic in Wenatchee Little girl loving her hot ramen over Blewitt Pass Jook after sledding at Crystale Springs Chicken Noodle Soup in the snow at Salmon Ridge. Pho bowls under the ferry awning at Diablo Lake.

Glass art

We picked up our finished creations from the glass blowing class we took a few weeks ago and I think they came out great! Can you tell who made which one? Nora's sunset pumpkin, May's bluebird and Evie's snow pumpkin.
