Happy Chinese New Year!

Gung Hay Fat Choy! Happy Year of the Rabbit! CNY snuck up pretty quickly this year, and we celebrated with (what else) food! The girls have spent the past 2 weekends trying to make ice cream mochi, and then for dinner we went over to the Wong's to make homemade dumplings. This was the first time we rolled our own skins too. Fancy!  This was a batch of Nutella Mochi You have to work quickly to wrap the filling. Some of the finished products. It was ok.  Starting to roll dumpling dough. Hard to make the skins uniformly round. Kathy's mom made home made nian go. Nora loooooved it. Cutie pies! Fun fact about the shirt that Evie's wearing in the pic is that it is vintage! I actually "stole" it from my mom but turns out, she got it from her older sister who hand made it over 60 years ago! It's a fairly thick shirt and has a layer of down in it too. When Evie and Nora heard about it, they were so impressed that it's really vintage and now want to make sure to pre...

Happy New Year!

Welcome, 2023!! It's so great to see you! But first, a quick look at what we did for the holidays...  Seems like such a long time ago but earlier in December, I did a holiday team event where we did a virtual cooking class to make a fish curry! It was pretty good. It was a fairly mild curry, and I think it would have benefited from cooking longer to develop a more intense flavor but it was still tasty. It was my first time doing a virtual cooking class and I had a lot of fun!    Virtual cooking class! Pan frying my black cod was surprisingly easy. My plating looks professional, no? On the 19th, we made it out of Seattle just as snow as starting to come down. Our flight was delayed so after finally arriving, getting luggage and driving home, it was close to 2am when my head finally hit the pillow. The girls were champs on the flight though, with Nora sleeping most of the way there.  Once we were in LA, Grammie and Grandpa had lots of fun activities planned for the g...

Surf and Turf Thanksgiving

This year marked what will hopefully be a new holiday tradition — crabbing and fishing for our thanksgiving feast! Scott took Edmond and Kathy through the Ballard locks and out into Puget Sound to fish for flounder and denginous crab.  After waiting a few hours at the locks for a some big tugs to get through we got our turn. Out on the sound it was very calm, but very cold. Bundled up we baited crab traps and threw out a few squid baited fishing lines next to our crab traps off of Magnolia point in about 25 feet of water.  Scott caught a tiny sculpin and a few decent sized flounder fish (if you aren’t familiar they look like a small halibut ) while Kathy and Edmond pulled up 21 crab. We spent the night on the boat at the local marina but were snuggly warm with the boat heater plugged into shore power. After fishing for a couple hours in the fog we headed back and prepped dinner for a few additional friends who drove up to see the Wongs. We lucked out with good weather, hopeful...
Wow, we've neglected this blog quite a bit! So much to catch up on including Thanksgiving but since Scott will post about that, I'll just catch you all up on everything else!  A few weeks back we did a Seattle day where we explored around some old places we haven't been to in a while and also explored a few new ones that have been on our list. First, we took a stroll around Greenlake and it was super chilly and brisk but also nice! That neighborhood has changed so much since we left! Then we went up the hill and had brunch at Pete's Eggnest, which was a local brunch place that we used to walk to from our old house in Phinney. Then we drove over to Ballard and ducked into the shops and perused around. So many fun things to look at including a shop that my old co-worker opened recently! Then we headed to Wheelie Pop Brewing for an afternoon snack and to try their beer before heading back home. It was a nice day out exploring Seattle! Greenlake selfie hot chocolate at Pete...
