Salmon Festival!

The big event each year that the city of Issaquah puts on is the annual Salmon Festival, celebrating the salmon returning to the rivers to spawn. Downtown Issaquah is closed down to cars and they set up tons of art booths, entertainment, kids play stuff, a salmon bake and have docents walking around talking about salmon. We went last year with Evie and she'll tell you she had a great time but truthfully, all she remembers is that she got a balloon and that we had to park in a big parking structure and wait forever to take the shuttle to the festival.

This year, we decided to forego the shuttle (too hard with a baby) and parked close by instead. We got Evie a balloon again, and she was also able to do a lot more of the kid activities too - like getting her face painted! She calls it a face tattoo and was so excited about having it on her face. She would stop and ask "is my tattoo still on?" every 5 minutes. I think we'll definitely have to do this again next year!

Balloon tied to her wrist to make sure it didn't float away!

Right after she got her face tattoo-ed. The little boy in the background is my friend Cece and her son Drake.

Singing while we took a pit-stop at the library for me to feed Nora.

Happy new year!!

Goodness, it's already 2025! It's been a really long time since we posted!  We had a very lazy new year. We flew back from LA on the evening of the 31st so spent the last remaining hours of 2024 cozying up on the couch and then fell asleep before it even hit midnight! On New Years day, we slept in, cleaned up the house and then did a quick hike the next day. All in all, a good start to the year! Nora's new blanket hoodie. Cold and muddy trails. We're not in LA anymore! We hiked the Primrose trail that follows Coal Creek.

1 week checkup

We took Nora to her one week check up today and guess what? We have a porker on our hands! She weighed in at a whopping 6 lbs. 5.5 oz. That's 2.5 oz more than her birth weight! They want the baby to be back at birth weight within 2 weeks so she beat that milestone pretty handily. Hooray! So far, she's been better than Evie at eating (she doesn't take nearly as long, although she falls asleep VERY often) but she's not as good as Evie at pooping. Poor thing always seems to have tummy issues - she's very squirmy and fussy when she doesn't burp or poop. The doc doesn't think it's a big problem though since she still has lots of wet diapers, but we'll have to keep a better eye on it now. We'll have another doctor check up (with shots!) next week.

Getting to Sunrise after sunrise

It wouldn’t be a Seattle summer if we didn’t make the trek out to lovely Mt Rainier! We left pretty early and drove 2 hours to check out the north side of the volcano, Sunrise visitors center. Armed with plenty of candy, treats and PBJ, we took the trail up to Mt Fremont peak where you can check out an old fire lookout shelter perched on top. I can only imagine how intense that place would have been in a summer storm. We were equally concerned about not seeing a restroom for the caretaker either! I forgot to mention, on our hike up to the peak we noticed a big black bear scampering by a couple hundred yards above us towards the top of the mountain ridge. Pretty exciting! As you can imagine Nora had lots of questions about black bears and wanted to triple check that they aren’t as aggressive as grizzly bears. After that she made me practice how quickly I could whip out our bear spray can. The girls batted away aggressive squirrels during our mountain top picnic (hours after recount...
