Kauai: Part 'elua

After we said goodbye to the Hanleys, we drove to Princeville to check in to our next rental. The condo we rented was in the same complex we stayed in several years ago - it's a great location since it has awesome views, is walking distance to the St Regis (for drinks, breakfast and the beach), has a decent pool and a private beach as well. It's a good jumping off point for exploring the north side of Kauai.

Scott enjoying the view from the lanai and some Nora snuggles while she naps.

Side adventure: I broke my toe and went to the ER. Can you tell which toe I broke?

Unfortunately, the weather turned again and it was rainy and misty the next day. We were determined to venture out anyway and drove out to Tunnels, one of our favorite beaches. It was deserted because of the weather and the girls refused to get out of the car. We were able to convince them to get out and explore the dry caves that were nearby though. Nora thought it was spooky but Evie was intrigued! Then we ended our exploring with lunch and some more shave ice!

Time for lunch!

Had to try the famous Mai Tai at Tahiti Nui. Hands down the BEST MAI TAI I've ever had!
We also tried their Kalua Pork pizza, which was pretty good!

Next stop: Shave Ice! We went to Wishing Well since Way recommended it.
I'm not a big fan of Shave Ice (too sweet) but the girls looooove it.

On our last day, the sun cooperated and gave us a beautiful day! We started off with the fantastic breakfast buffet at the St Regis (pricey, but helpful that kids under 5 eat free). Then we went back to Tunnels and confirmed once again that it's a beach worth reminiscing about when we're cold and wet back in Seattle. The sand isn't super soft and fine, but the water is very shallow and clear and perfect for kids. Scott tried snorkeling but said the current was a bit strong.

Breakfast view at the St Regis. We saw THREE rainbows!

There's another rainbow behind Evie!

Yes, that's cheerios in the bowl. Thank goodness, she ate free.
Evie at least drank the buffet price worth of fresh juice!
Ahhhh, Tunnels!
Fun in the sun!

I love shell hunting at this beach!

Lunch trunk stop - Hanalei Taro and Juice Co.
Next time, I want to tour the Taro fields!

Zonked out on the flight home.

Mahalo, Kauai! Until next time!
If you want to see all of the photos, here's a link to the album.

Happy new year!!

Goodness, it's already 2025! It's been a really long time since we posted!  We had a very lazy new year. We flew back from LA on the evening of the 31st so spent the last remaining hours of 2024 cozying up on the couch and then fell asleep before it even hit midnight! On New Years day, we slept in, cleaned up the house and then did a quick hike the next day. All in all, a good start to the year! Nora's new blanket hoodie. Cold and muddy trails. We're not in LA anymore! We hiked the Primrose trail that follows Coal Creek.

Eating on the road

With all the COVID restrictions on restaurants and Scott not liking takeout service, we've gotten pretty good at planning meals for days we are out and about. We've basically taken to tailgating... a lot! It is nice though that it means having a hot meal to warm up after a day of playing in the snow and I'm not going to lie - it is also a good excuse to eat instant noodles because it is fast and easy and warming!   For overnight stays, we end up doing instant pot meals like one-pot spaghetti or chili, or easy meals like a cheese plate or sandwiches. It does save on $ so that's definitely nice but man, I can't wait to go out to restaurants again! Beef and barley soup lunch at Mt Baker. Chillin' with Chili at Crystal Mountain. Beautiful but cold picnic in Wenatchee Little girl loving her hot ramen over Blewitt Pass Jook after sledding at Crystale Springs Chicken Noodle Soup in the snow at Salmon Ridge. Pho bowls under the ferry awning at Diablo Lake.

Glass art

We picked up our finished creations from the glass blowing class we took a few weeks ago and I think they came out great! Can you tell who made which one? Nora's sunset pumpkin, May's bluebird and Evie's snow pumpkin.
