Father's Day

Happy Father's Day, Scott Simpson! We had a fun day celebrating you, and I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!

It started off as a lazaroni day catching up on sleep, work and laundry while the girls had some screentime and played in the piles of (clean) laundry. We headed out to a local chinese place for lunch but got sidelined by signs for a new dumpling restaurant in the same complex and we just HAD to try it! It was interesting and pretty yummy - it was the first time I've ever seen dumplings panfriend in an entire sheet where you can actually eat the "paper" that it's fried on. The girls loved it.

Then we headed to the boat. Sadly, the power somehow ran out so the battery was dead on the boat. It ended up being okay because that gave Scott plenty of time to wash the boat (his favorite thing to do!) while we let the fridge get cold again. We made it out onto the lake for about an hour and it was really crowded. The gorgeous weather today (80s, but windy out on the water) brought everyone out!

For dinner, we walked from the boat up to a new Ethan Stowell restaurant called Super Bueno. I have recently picked up saying "no bueno" from a coworker and I have a feeling I'm going to be saying that "super buneo" now a lot instead! Anyway, the restaurant had new takes on Mexican and also had a kids playarea that kept the girls pretty entertained while Scott and I sat back and sipped on our Red Jalapeno Margaritas (which were delicious!).

Bubbles!

Waiting to surprise Daddy!

He's almost here!!

Captain Daddy.

Watermelon and Mint salad with poprocks (!!) and chili. It was pretty good.
The best though, were the churros and dulche de leche dip. The coconut lime sorbet was pretty good too.

Happy new year!!

Goodness, it's already 2025! It's been a really long time since we posted!  We had a very lazy new year. We flew back from LA on the evening of the 31st so spent the last remaining hours of 2024 cozying up on the couch and then fell asleep before it even hit midnight! On New Years day, we slept in, cleaned up the house and then did a quick hike the next day. All in all, a good start to the year! Nora's new blanket hoodie. Cold and muddy trails. We're not in LA anymore! We hiked the Primrose trail that follows Coal Creek.

1 week checkup

We took Nora to her one week check up today and guess what? We have a porker on our hands! She weighed in at a whopping 6 lbs. 5.5 oz. That's 2.5 oz more than her birth weight! They want the baby to be back at birth weight within 2 weeks so she beat that milestone pretty handily. Hooray! So far, she's been better than Evie at eating (she doesn't take nearly as long, although she falls asleep VERY often) but she's not as good as Evie at pooping. Poor thing always seems to have tummy issues - she's very squirmy and fussy when she doesn't burp or poop. The doc doesn't think it's a big problem though since she still has lots of wet diapers, but we'll have to keep a better eye on it now. We'll have another doctor check up (with shots!) next week.

Getting to Sunrise after sunrise

It wouldn’t be a Seattle summer if we didn’t make the trek out to lovely Mt Rainier! We left pretty early and drove 2 hours to check out the north side of the volcano, Sunrise visitors center. Armed with plenty of candy, treats and PBJ, we took the trail up to Mt Fremont peak where you can check out an old fire lookout shelter perched on top. I can only imagine how intense that place would have been in a summer storm. We were equally concerned about not seeing a restroom for the caretaker either! I forgot to mention, on our hike up to the peak we noticed a big black bear scampering by a couple hundred yards above us towards the top of the mountain ridge. Pretty exciting! As you can imagine Nora had lots of questions about black bears and wanted to triple check that they aren’t as aggressive as grizzly bears. After that she made me practice how quickly I could whip out our bear spray can. The girls batted away aggressive squirrels during our mountain top picnic (hours after recount...
