4 months old

Happy 4 month birthday, Nora! At 4 months old, she is cooing up a storm and finding her voice. She first giggled when I was tickling her a few weeks ago. She sleeps for about 5-6 hour stretch at night still, but the second (and sometimes 3rd) leg have extended so that twice this past week she had woken up only once for a feeding. She's got a healthy appetite - today she took 4 ounces at a sitting. She's reaching and grabbing for things but have not yet rolled over. She still HATES her carseat, but loves smiling at big sister Evie, looking at the mirror and listening to the white noise machine.

The actual day (yesterday) of her 4 month birthday turned out to be not so much fun. Both girls had been running a slight temperature the past few days and with the shots on Thursday, Nora just hasn't been feeling very well at all. Friday night was a rough night where she woke up more than usual and her cough in the morning sounded really scary - barky and deep. We were worried about it so we took her to Urgent Care and it turns out she has Croup. It's a pretty common virus for kids, and after a dose of steroids, she's doing much much better today. She's still coughing a bit but it's not barky anymore and she was in a good enough mood this morning to sit still for her 4 month session. She sure is a cutie pie, even when she's sick!

Happy birthday, "littely!"

And, for comparison, here's Evie's 4 month shot:

  1. Oh no! Poor Nora!! I'm glad she's getting better. Croup can be scary. Ian got croup around 4mos too, right after he visited you guys in Seattle. Must be something in the water up there...

Happy new year!!

Goodness, it's already 2025! It's been a really long time since we posted!  We had a very lazy new year. We flew back from LA on the evening of the 31st so spent the last remaining hours of 2024 cozying up on the couch and then fell asleep before it even hit midnight! On New Years day, we slept in, cleaned up the house and then did a quick hike the next day. All in all, a good start to the year! Nora's new blanket hoodie. Cold and muddy trails. We're not in LA anymore! We hiked the Primrose trail that follows Coal Creek.

1 week checkup

We took Nora to her one week check up today and guess what? We have a porker on our hands! She weighed in at a whopping 6 lbs. 5.5 oz. That's 2.5 oz more than her birth weight! They want the baby to be back at birth weight within 2 weeks so she beat that milestone pretty handily. Hooray! So far, she's been better than Evie at eating (she doesn't take nearly as long, although she falls asleep VERY often) but she's not as good as Evie at pooping. Poor thing always seems to have tummy issues - she's very squirmy and fussy when she doesn't burp or poop. The doc doesn't think it's a big problem though since she still has lots of wet diapers, but we'll have to keep a better eye on it now. We'll have another doctor check up (with shots!) next week.

Apple tasting

Over the weekend we popped into the free Apple Tasting and Cider Making at the Orcas Island Historical Museum and it was amazing! There had to have been 30+ varieties and all of them can be found locally on the island. We had a lot of fun sampling away, tasting new varieties that I've never even heard of like Albermarle Pippin or Kennebec or early Fuji or Ashmael Kernel. I hope they do this again next year. Who wants to go with us?
