Franklin Falls

Last weekend's short hike was a test run for a longer hike we've been wanting to do for a while. Since it was again so pretty out, we headed east to check out Franklin Falls. It's a 2 mile round trip hike on a well-maintaned path that's doable even for the smallest hiker. In fact, every other group we passed by had kids or dogs with them.

Evie started off the hike cranky because we woke her from her nap. She refused to walk on her own and did not want to look at the camera for photos.
Daddy getting a good workout

After lots of fairy talk, listening for birds, and watching all the other kiddos run around, she loosened up and started to enjoy herself. The trail follows the river so we could see little falls here and there, but we were very excited to finally get to Franklin Fall itself because it's pretty spectacular.

As you can see, the last bit of the hike is very rocky, wet, and the trail itself is a ~2 foot ledge on the side of the mountain. We stood at a distance and decided not to hike down, but surprisingly, Evie wanted to go! So, off me and Evie went very careful down the slippery rocks while Daddy and Nora watched.

Hanging out on the trail
Made it to the bottom!

"That boy is too close, Mama!" said Evie, referring to
the kid in red in the background.
Slowly making our way back up.

The walk back down to the car was really quick because Evie's "fast shoes" started to work and she was running down the trails. We had fun also stopping by to throw walks in the River. Supposedly, this is a fun place to splash in the water during the summer months so we'll have to definitely come back in the summer!

Happy new year!!

Goodness, it's already 2025! It's been a really long time since we posted!  We had a very lazy new year. We flew back from LA on the evening of the 31st so spent the last remaining hours of 2024 cozying up on the couch and then fell asleep before it even hit midnight! On New Years day, we slept in, cleaned up the house and then did a quick hike the next day. All in all, a good start to the year! Nora's new blanket hoodie. Cold and muddy trails. We're not in LA anymore! We hiked the Primrose trail that follows Coal Creek.

Eating on the road

With all the COVID restrictions on restaurants and Scott not liking takeout service, we've gotten pretty good at planning meals for days we are out and about. We've basically taken to tailgating... a lot! It is nice though that it means having a hot meal to warm up after a day of playing in the snow and I'm not going to lie - it is also a good excuse to eat instant noodles because it is fast and easy and warming!   For overnight stays, we end up doing instant pot meals like one-pot spaghetti or chili, or easy meals like a cheese plate or sandwiches. It does save on $ so that's definitely nice but man, I can't wait to go out to restaurants again! Beef and barley soup lunch at Mt Baker. Chillin' with Chili at Crystal Mountain. Beautiful but cold picnic in Wenatchee Little girl loving her hot ramen over Blewitt Pass Jook after sledding at Crystale Springs Chicken Noodle Soup in the snow at Salmon Ridge. Pho bowls under the ferry awning at Diablo Lake.

Glass art

We picked up our finished creations from the glass blowing class we took a few weeks ago and I think they came out great! Can you tell who made which one? Nora's sunset pumpkin, May's bluebird and Evie's snow pumpkin.
