Happy 1st birthday, Nora-bearski!

I really can't believe that a year has now passed from when my water broke and Nora joined our family a few hours later. "Days long, years short" is so true! Time has flown by. My heart is so full thinking of my two little girls and how much happiness they bring into my life.

Little Nora is not so little now though! At her doc appt today, she weighed in at 19.3 lbs, which is in the 25th percentile! She's also at the 54 percentile for height. She did pretty good with her shots today - cried quite a bit but calmed down after being distracted by PohPoh asking her to look for birdies and airplanes out the window.

Sitting in a big girl chair, blissfully unaware she's about to get shots.

After dinner, we sang her Happy Birthday and she tried her first cupcake. Despite Evie's whining, I stuck to my guns and gave Nora vanilla instead of a chocolate cupcake. Sadly, she was not too into it. I think she was scared off by the candle so didn't like touching the cream frosting.

No! Don't make me eat that!

Hmmm... on second though, that's kinda yummy!

And, of course, we had to do her birthday pictures. She wouldn't sit still for the pictures, which is pretty par for the course now that she can walk. She picked that up a few weeks ago and is now happily shuffling her way everywhere.

At one years old, Nora can say "mama" pretty good but hasn't really said "dada" too often. She also says "ball" and "book". She loves to point to the sky looking for airplanes and birds. She's very vocal - those of you who have had the pleasure of eating with her will know she's a loud eater when she likes her food (lots of yummmmm and mmmmmms) and a loud screamer when she doesn't. Her favorite food is cheese, but she's usually pretty good with oatmeal, deli meats, pasta and bread. In other words, not too adventurous of an eater (yet!). She has 7 teeth so far - 4 on top and 3 on the bottom. So far, she's been a terrible teether - lots of whining and fussy when a tooth breaks through the gums.

Her favorite person in the world is Evie. She loves following big sis around and screams in delight when Evie gets home from school every day. She can be very serious, but after she gets to know you, she's generally a happy kid that giggles and likes to play with iPhones and iPads.

We love you, little Nora bear!

I don't want to sit for a portrait!

Oh mom, you're so funny!

Family time

I had to do a quick trip to LA towards the end of July to say goodbye to my Uncle Pang, who passed away a few weeks earlier. I have fond memories of fun cousin time at his house in Palos Verdes and Uncle Pang taking us to the beach when we were younger. I remember how he delighted in making us kids squeal with laughter by pretending the car ride was a rolleroaster - we'd take sharp turns and all of us kids would slide to one side of his Volvo station wagon or he'd slow the car down to a roll and we'd all chant that we couldn't let the car stop and it would inch slowly forward at a stoplight.  Although it was a sad reason to get together, I think he would be happy to know that the weekend was also a wonderful get together with family. Because it was fairly last minute, none of the kids flew over which meant us "adult cousins" were able to have long talks and linger over food. Kin and Meredith were able to host a summertime bbq at their house and we had a nice t...

Happy new year!!

Goodness, it's already 2025! It's been a really long time since we posted!  We had a very lazy new year. We flew back from LA on the evening of the 31st so spent the last remaining hours of 2024 cozying up on the couch and then fell asleep before it even hit midnight! On New Years day, we slept in, cleaned up the house and then did a quick hike the next day. All in all, a good start to the year! Nora's new blanket hoodie. Cold and muddy trails. We're not in LA anymore! We hiked the Primrose trail that follows Coal Creek.

Cousins trip: Banff!

Just 2 weeks ago I was in the beautiful town of Banff enjoying girl time with my cousins and taking in the picturesque landscape and now I'm holed up in front of my computer doing work. Oh how I wish I could go back! This was my second trip to Banff (first time was back in 2019 on a roadtrip with the family ) and I got to check out other parts of this beautiful National Park while laughing it up with these girls to celebrate Frances' big birthday..  We all met up at Calgary airport on Friday morning and after a quick lunch at Calan Noodles for hand-made beef noodle soup (yum!), we hopped in our rental car and drove the 90 minutes to Banff. I was surprised and impressed at how easy the drive was - even easier than driving to Whistler because of the wide and well maintained freeway.  That first afternoon in Banff we walked around town and did some shopping before making our way to Brazen, a bistro serving "Modern Canadian" fare. What's Modern Canadian you ask? We di...
