Very Merry Christmas, part 1

Whew - we got back from LA 2 days ago and we're still recovering from our mega fun Holiday bonanza. So much to write about! We packed a lot into our week down south.

I'll start first with our very fun flight down to LA. I've been hoarding my United miles for years but we just don't have much of a reason to fly United in Seattle since this is Alaska's main hub. Holiday fares were so expensive, we decided to cash in on those United miles to fly down. The problem is there is no direct flight on United from Seattle to Burbank, and we were pretty adamant about flying to Burbank since we didn't want to deal with LAX traffic. To fly to Burbank, we had the option of doing a layover in Portland, SF or Denver. We chose SF because, why not?

Wouldn't you know it that they canceled the SF-Burbank flight the morning we were supposed to leave! Of course, I didn't get the notification until we had already gotten to the airport - a full 1.5 hours before our 8:15am flight. Bugger! They couldn't find 3 seats available on ANY flight from SF to Burbank OR LAX that day if you can believe it. Instead, we talked them into booking us on a direct flight through (trusty ole) Alaska Airlines. The good news was that it was a non-stop flight, there was availability and no fee to change our flight. The bad news? The flight didn't depart until 10 hours later at 5:30pm and flew into LAX.

Since we took a cab to the airport in rush hour, we figured it wasn't worth it to spend another $100+ on a ride back home only to come back in a few hours. We decided to check in our luggage and just hang out at the airport. Seatac is nice - it has some interesting shops, good food and Scott has access to the Alaska lounge. Seemed pretty reasonable, right?

Let me tell you - wasting 10 hours in an airport with two toddlers is pretty exhausting. Here are our highlights:
Watching the planes from the Alaska lounge.

Breaking out our plane toys a little early.

Kids Play Area

Early enough we're the only ones here!

We went twice because the girls needed to run around and we had time.

Seasons greetings from SeaTac!

Snack time in the Alaska lounge.

Walked around and around until this one fell asleep.
So glad we brought a stroller!

We finally got on the flight, and thank goodness it was pretty uneventful:

Is Evie old enough to have a lap infant?
By the time we landed, go our luggage and waited for my mom to battle epic traffic to get us, the kids were zonked out.

Sleeping Beauty

2 minutes later, this one was asleep too.

Happy new year!!

Goodness, it's already 2025! It's been a really long time since we posted!  We had a very lazy new year. We flew back from LA on the evening of the 31st so spent the last remaining hours of 2024 cozying up on the couch and then fell asleep before it even hit midnight! On New Years day, we slept in, cleaned up the house and then did a quick hike the next day. All in all, a good start to the year! Nora's new blanket hoodie. Cold and muddy trails. We're not in LA anymore! We hiked the Primrose trail that follows Coal Creek.

Eating on the road

With all the COVID restrictions on restaurants and Scott not liking takeout service, we've gotten pretty good at planning meals for days we are out and about. We've basically taken to tailgating... a lot! It is nice though that it means having a hot meal to warm up after a day of playing in the snow and I'm not going to lie - it is also a good excuse to eat instant noodles because it is fast and easy and warming!   For overnight stays, we end up doing instant pot meals like one-pot spaghetti or chili, or easy meals like a cheese plate or sandwiches. It does save on $ so that's definitely nice but man, I can't wait to go out to restaurants again! Beef and barley soup lunch at Mt Baker. Chillin' with Chili at Crystal Mountain. Beautiful but cold picnic in Wenatchee Little girl loving her hot ramen over Blewitt Pass Jook after sledding at Crystale Springs Chicken Noodle Soup in the snow at Salmon Ridge. Pho bowls under the ferry awning at Diablo Lake.

Glass art

We picked up our finished creations from the glass blowing class we took a few weeks ago and I think they came out great! Can you tell who made which one? Nora's sunset pumpkin, May's bluebird and Evie's snow pumpkin.
