Maui, Part Elua (2)

As luck would have it, the T-Mobile awards trip to Maui coincided with the dates Way, Kevin and Ian (and their Nana and Papa) were going to be there! They arrived the day after the T-Mobile trip was scheduled to end so how could we not extend our trip so we can keep with tradition and do our yearly Hawaii vacation together as a big family?!

We checked out of the Sheraton on Monday, rented a car, and headed down to Wailea where we rented a condo at Ekolu Village for the next 5 nights. It was so nice to have more space to spread out plus a kitchen of our own to make meals and have snacks. One of the biggest bummers about sharing a room with little ones on vacation is it means having to go to bed pretty much when the kids do. On the bright side, we were able to get tons of sleep while we were at the Sheraton because we were on the same sleep schedule as the girls. Anyway, at the condo it was a nice to be able to put the girls down for bed and then sit out on the lanai with a glass of wine.

Each day followed a pretty standard routing: wake up, eat breakfast, drive down to Way's condo to meet them at the beach. After some romping on the beach, we would head up to Way's place to cook a casual lunch. Then naps, followed by pool and play time.

On our first morning at the beach, we were greeted by a big Shark Sighting sign and lots of beach patrol making sure no one went in more than ankle deep into the water. How exciting, and terrifying! I don't think it affected us much though since the kids just played in the sand all morning.

Funny enough, as much as Nora is the crazier of the two girls, she hated the beach! She didn't like the walking on the sand and was scared of the waves. It wasn't until the second to last day that she was comfortable enough to sit on my lap in the sand. That was as close as she got to enjoying the great Maui beaches.

On our last day, we decided to treat ourselves by going to get Shaved Ice. You can't go to Hawaii without getting this delicious treat. Since it's so sugary (we like to get a scoop of Macadamia Nut ice cream in the middle), the 4 of us all shared one small Shaved Ice. Evie got to choose the flavors so we had Blue Raspberry, Coconut and Guava. It was kind of funny and sad how fast we gobbled it down! Nora was not too happy about having to share, either!

Even better, that night we did our first night swim! Evie and Ian were giddy with excitement to be able to do such a grownup activity. Nora and I stayed dry and just watched the shenanigans in the pool.

    Oh man, I'm so behind with posting our photos! Thanks for putting your's up!! We had so much fun with you guys, so happy that you extended your stay!

Family time

I had to do a quick trip to LA towards the end of July to say goodbye to my Uncle Pang, who passed away a few weeks earlier. I have fond memories of fun cousin time at his house in Palos Verdes and Uncle Pang taking us to the beach when we were younger. I remember how he delighted in making us kids squeal with laughter by pretending the car ride was a rolleroaster - we'd take sharp turns and all of us kids would slide to one side of his Volvo station wagon or he'd slow the car down to a roll and we'd all chant that we couldn't let the car stop and it would inch slowly forward at a stoplight.  Although it was a sad reason to get together, I think he would be happy to know that the weekend was also a wonderful get together with family. Happy new year!!

Goodness, it's already 2025! It's been a really long time since we posted!  We had a very lazy new year. We flew back from LA on the evening of the 31st so spent the last remaining hours of 2024 cozying up on the couch and then fell asleep before it even hit midnight! On New Years day, we slept in, cleaned up the house and then did a quick hike the next day. All in all, a good start to the year! Nora's new blanket hoodie. Cold and muddy trails. We're not in LA anymore! We hiked the Primrose trail that follows Coal Creek.

Cousins trip: Banff!

Just 2 weeks ago I was in the beautiful town of Banff enjoying girl time with my cousins and taking in the picturesque landscape and now I'm holed up in front of my computer doing work. Oh how I wish I could go back! This was my second trip to Banff (first time was back in 2019 on a roadtrip with the family ) and I got to check out other parts of this beautiful National Park while laughing it up with these girls to celebrate Frances' big birthday..  We all met up at Calgary airport on Friday morning and after a quick lunch at Calan Noodles for hand-made beef noodle soup (yum!), we hopped in our rental car and drove the 90 minutes to Banff.
