I survived...

I've taken the girls on my own to dinner at fast food places like McDonalds, but tonight was the first time we went to a real restaurant by ourselves. Any of you who know Nora knows that she's at best, a clingy monkey on me at the dinner table and at worst, a shrieking over-active kid who can't stay in her seat. So it was with a very deep breath that I took the plunge and went to grab dinner before Evie's swim class tonight.

Verdict: I can wait to do it again, but it was not as bad as I had thought it would be. We went to Tapatio because Evie requested it (side note: this is the type of Mexican restaurant that makes people say they hate Mexican food) and they heeded my request for a booth because I thought it could contain the kids. Dinner started off okay but went south after we got our meals because Nora didn't want to eat and instead kept wanting to slide down the booth and play on the floor, and then would turn into a limp noodle when I tried to pick her up. I ended up having to bribe the two of them with chocolate to finish their meals (really, just eat at least one slice of the quesadilla!). Not my proudest mom moment but hey, the chocolates came with the check and the girls already saw it so why not use it to my advantage, right? :)

Dinner time.

"I like chocolate! I like Mommy!"
Yes, she actually said those phrases and I would give
her chocolate again to say them again! :)

  1. Good job taking out both girls at once! I like that Nora still have chocolate on her mouth in the photo too. :)

Happy new year!!

Goodness, it's already 2025! It's been a really long time since we posted!  We had a very lazy new year. We flew back from LA on the evening of the 31st so spent the last remaining hours of 2024 cozying up on the couch and then fell asleep before it even hit midnight! On New Years day, we slept in, cleaned up the house and then did a quick hike the next day. All in all, a good start to the year! Nora's new blanket hoodie. Cold and muddy trails. We're not in LA anymore! We hiked the Primrose trail that follows Coal Creek.

1 week checkup

We took Nora to her one week check up today and guess what? We have a porker on our hands! She weighed in at a whopping 6 lbs. 5.5 oz. That's 2.5 oz more than her birth weight! They want the baby to be back at birth weight within 2 weeks so she beat that milestone pretty handily. Hooray! So far, she's been better than Evie at eating (she doesn't take nearly as long, although she falls asleep VERY often) but she's not as good as Evie at pooping. Poor thing always seems to have tummy issues - she's very squirmy and fussy when she doesn't burp or poop. The doc doesn't think it's a big problem though since she still has lots of wet diapers, but we'll have to keep a better eye on it now. We'll have another doctor check up (with shots!) next week.

Getting to Sunrise after sunrise

It wouldn’t be a Seattle summer if we didn’t make the trek out to lovely Mt Rainier! We left pretty early and drove 2 hours to check out the north side of the volcano, Sunrise visitors center. Armed with plenty of candy, treats and PBJ, we took the trail up to Mt Fremont peak where you can check out an old fire lookout shelter perched on top. I can only imagine how intense that place would have been in a summer storm. We were equally concerned about not seeing a restroom for the caretaker either! I forgot to mention, on our hike up to the peak we noticed a big black bear scampering by a couple hundred yards above us towards the top of the mountain ridge. Pretty exciting! As you can imagine Nora had lots of questions about black bears and wanted to triple check that they aren’t as aggressive as grizzly bears. After that she made me practice how quickly I could whip out our bear spray can. The girls batted away aggressive squirrels during our mountain top picnic (hours after recount...
