Leavenworth weekend

We haven't been to Leavenworth in a few years and definitely have never been in the winter, which is when everyone says is the best time to visit because of the snowy fun, so we took advantage of the long MLK weekend to do an overnight stay.

The drive was easy, with snow on the ground the entire way from Snoqualamie to Leavenworth! Nora was SOOOO excited. She was literally shouting and point out every big snow mounds she saw. Cute but annoying.

We got there in about 2 hours and decided to try sledding before lunch. Sadly, the sledding hill in the town square was icky (no fresh snow = dirty, muddy, crowded sledding hills) so we walked around Waterfront park instead. The girls liked being towed on the sled all around the park.

We lucked out because this weekend happened to be Ice Fest and while that meant big crowds, we also got to enjoy the ice sculptures and fireworks. Plus, the town kept all their Christmas lights up so it was really magical to hang out in the cold night with all the pretty twinkling lights all around us.

The downside of all those people was that EVERYONE headed to dinner right after the fireworks show at 6pm. We got in our heads that we wanted to go to the same restaurant that the girls enjoyed the last time we were in town, and ended up having to wait two hours for a table. The musicians kept us occupied while we waited for a seat and at least the food was worth the wait!

The next day, we headed into the nearby mountains to test our Nora's new snow shoes. It was really pretty comical how hard it was for the girls to walk with snow shoes. You'd think they were drunk! Every few feet one of them was falling over. It didn't help that the trail we took was at a (closed for winter) campground so there were so many enticing big snow drifts and open fields to go play in! They kept wanting to just fall in the snow and make angels and build forts.

We all decided we had so much fun that we will have to do this again next year!

Happy new year!!

Goodness, it's already 2025! It's been a really long time since we posted!  We had a very lazy new year. We flew back from LA on the evening of the 31st so spent the last remaining hours of 2024 cozying up on the couch and then fell asleep before it even hit midnight! On New Years day, we slept in, cleaned up the house and then did a quick hike the next day. All in all, a good start to the year! Nora's new blanket hoodie. Cold and muddy trails. We're not in LA anymore! We hiked the Primrose trail that follows Coal Creek.

1 week checkup

We took Nora to her one week check up today and guess what? We have a porker on our hands! She weighed in at a whopping 6 lbs. 5.5 oz. That's 2.5 oz more than her birth weight! They want the baby to be back at birth weight within 2 weeks so she beat that milestone pretty handily. Hooray! So far, she's been better than Evie at eating (she doesn't take nearly as long, although she falls asleep VERY often) but she's not as good as Evie at pooping. Poor thing always seems to have tummy issues - she's very squirmy and fussy when she doesn't burp or poop. The doc doesn't think it's a big problem though since she still has lots of wet diapers, but we'll have to keep a better eye on it now. We'll have another doctor check up (with shots!) next week.

Apple tasting

Over the weekend we popped into the free Apple Tasting and Cider Making at the Orcas Island Historical Museum and it was amazing! There had to have been 30+ varieties and all of them can be found locally on the island. We had a lot of fun sampling away, tasting new varieties that I've never even heard of like Albermarle Pippin or Kennebec or early Fuji or Ashmael Kernel. I hope they do this again next year. Who wants to go with us?
