April trip to Leavenworth/Chelan

A few weekends ago, we took a last minute trip to Leavenworth and the Lake Chelan area to look at some properties that Scott and Edmond have been interested in.

We ran into a small hiccup when we set out on Saturday morning because a huge snowstorm was breaking over the mountain pass and it made for a very slow drive. It was a very late spring storm and no one was ready for it. The roads over Snoqualamie pass were atrocious - they didn't have the snow plows out yet and folks were sliding all over the place. Even though it clearly said in flashing lights and signs everywhere that chains or AWD required, so many people didn't heed the warnings and their slipping and sliding caused accidents left and right. Thankfully we made it through without any issues, and before they closed down the pass. Our friends, Edmond and Kathy, got stuck in the closure for several hours waiting for the storm to pass and the roads to clear.

Once over the pass, we drove straight to Lake Chelan. It was our first time here and I can see why so many people rave about it! The lake was super pretty and very big. We looked at various properties before meeting up with Edmond and Kathy and driving back to Leavenworth for the night.

In Leavenworth the next day, we ate a quick, early outdoor lunch at a biergarten and then strolled through Enchantment park so that we could find a new mountain biking park that was recently built for kids to practice on. Too bad we didn't bring our bikes because the kids thought it looked fun! We'll have to do it next time.

Lots of snow!

It was windy at the top of the mountain but the kids enjoyed it!

Quick break to get the willies out at the playground next to the lake.

The beer stein was bigger than Nora's head!

Happy new year!!

Goodness, it's already 2025! It's been a really long time since we posted!  We had a very lazy new year. We flew back from LA on the evening of the 31st so spent the last remaining hours of 2024 cozying up on the couch and then fell asleep before it even hit midnight! On New Years day, we slept in, cleaned up the house and then did a quick hike the next day. All in all, a good start to the year! Nora's new blanket hoodie. Cold and muddy trails. We're not in LA anymore! We hiked the Primrose trail that follows Coal Creek.

Eating on the road

With all the COVID restrictions on restaurants and Scott not liking takeout service, we've gotten pretty good at planning meals for days we are out and about. We've basically taken to tailgating... a lot! It is nice though that it means having a hot meal to warm up after a day of playing in the snow and I'm not going to lie - it is also a good excuse to eat instant noodles because it is fast and easy and warming!   For overnight stays, we end up doing instant pot meals like one-pot spaghetti or chili, or easy meals like a cheese plate or sandwiches. It does save on $ so that's definitely nice but man, I can't wait to go out to restaurants again! Beef and barley soup lunch at Mt Baker. Chillin' with Chili at Crystal Mountain. Beautiful but cold picnic in Wenatchee Little girl loving her hot ramen over Blewitt Pass Jook after sledding at Crystale Springs Chicken Noodle Soup in the snow at Salmon Ridge. Pho bowls under the ferry awning at Diablo Lake.

Glass art

We picked up our finished creations from the glass blowing class we took a few weeks ago and I think they came out great! Can you tell who made which one? Nora's sunset pumpkin, May's bluebird and Evie's snow pumpkin.
