Nora turns lucky 7!

Our Nora girl is now 7!!

This lucky duck got to celebrate her birthday in Hawaii. A few months back she was requesting a Hawaii themed birthday party so this was even better and way more authentic! :)

For her big day, we started it off in true Nora style with Chocolate Muffins for breakfast. Then, we went on a Mommy and Me trip to the nearby grocery store to pick out a cake. She also wanted to get a goodie bag for her friends, so we picked out some Hawaii souvenirs for Evie, Kinsey and Kingston. The rest of the day was a blur of playtime, tv time, lunch (her request was jook!), LOTS of pool time, shave ice (of course!) and then grilled burgers for dinner. We completed the day with (what else) chocolate cake!

At 7, Nora is just still the biggest goofball. She revels in being the baby of the group and likes to be silly and relies on her big sis to do a lot. Most of the time, she can get away with it because she's so durn cute and sweet! She's very affectionate, and quite boisterous and loud, and can be a lot of fun. It also means though that she can be quite the handful when she gets out of line though!

She's been practicing ukelele for a few months now but doesn't have the patience to progress much after she's learned a few songs. She claims to still love math, and while she struggled with reading at the beginning of the school year, something just clicked and now she's a reading champ and will sit quietly with a book sometimes.

She still loooooves anything sweet, especially anything chocolate, ring pops and mochi. Her other favorite food is still eggs, rice and soy-sauce, fried rice or mac n cheese (Kraft). At the moment, she's also into Sailormoon and Avatar, but I think it's more because some of the kids at camp introduced it to the girls. I have a feeling this fad will fade soon. She does, however, keep going back to artic foxes as her favorite animal. Not sure where she picked that up but she liked to read and write about them for class.

Blankie is still around, but has taken the form of two old sundresses since her old red-and-black blankie was taken away a few years ago. She doesn't really need it though - we went to Hawaii without them and she was fine but she definitely still prefers to have them when she goes to bed if she can.

We love her to pieces and can't believe how much she's grown in the past year. She's losing her baby fat so she's not so round anymore but that doesn't stop me from still trying to pinch her soft little cheeks!

Going to the market with Mom to pick out her cake.

Hawaiian wrapping for her presents!

Shave ice at Anuenue! The name even sounds like her nickname, doesn't it?

chocolate cake to end the day.

Happy new year!!

Goodness, it's already 2025! It's been a really long time since we posted!  We had a very lazy new year. We flew back from LA on the evening of the 31st so spent the last remaining hours of 2024 cozying up on the couch and then fell asleep before it even hit midnight! On New Years day, we slept in, cleaned up the house and then did a quick hike the next day. All in all, a good start to the year! Nora's new blanket hoodie. Cold and muddy trails. We're not in LA anymore! We hiked the Primrose trail that follows Coal Creek.

Ski weekend in Leavenworth

We had made plans many moons ago to take the MLK weekend for a short getaway to the Leavenworth area. We've been a few times in years past and it's always a fun place to visit especially in the wintertime. But this year, with COVID and all, we weren't sure whether we wanted to go but I'm super happy that we went. We had a blast and was able to keep safe by keeping to ourselves! First up, we left bright and early so that we can pack in a snowshoe/winter hike on the drive over. The last time we went , we had stopped for some snowshoeing on the way back and it was epic! Unfortunately, this time the snow was old and not nearly as soft and fluffy so while it was a nice diversion with some pretty views, it wasn't as great as we had hoped. The fun part though, was that we brought our camping stove with us so we did some tailgating in the parking lot and had a fancy ramen meal for lunch. It was super nice to warm the belly with the yummy noodles and broth! That evening, we ...

Line em up!

I remember being surprised several years ago when I saw someone in Evie's class lining her toys up neatly for play. I know lining toys up isn't remarkable, but didn't occur to me until I saw her play like that that Evie didn't do it. I expressed this to Scott and while I don't think it's bad or good, it was just interesting to me back then because of the different ways little kids' minds work. It's even more interesting to me now because lo and behold, Nora is someone who likes to line up her toys! I've actually never seen Evie do this ever and Nora does this quite often. It makes me wonder what this says about their personalities and natural instincts.
