Covid roundup

Wow, can't believe January has already flown by! It's been quite the month, even though we haven't really done anything noteworthy.

The main news is that COVID finally infiltrated our little bubble. Evie caught it somewhere but we are not sure where since we have not been notified of close contact from anyone. She complained of a headache and feeling tired, but a rapid test was negative and she felt fine 2 hours later so back to school she went! This was on Tuesday, the 11th. On Wednesday evening, we had a pre-planned PCR test scheduled because we had plans to go to Vancouver for MLK weekend for some skiing. We got results back on Saturday AM that Evie was positive and boy were we surprised! I guess we shouldn't have been given her headache on Tuesday but she's had no other symptoms and all of us have been feeling dandy. Needless to say, we canceled our trip. Good news: the rest of us were negative.

Because of Evie's positive result, we've had to take numerous tests to make sure Nora can go back to school. Evie hasn't quarantined within the house against us, so we've been "exposed" this entire time - it seemed silly given we had no clue she was positive between when she took the test on Wed and when we got the results on Sat. In any case, going by school rules, the very last test we needed to take was this past Saturday. I made appts for Scott and I too, just in case, even though all of us are feeling fine. Well, guess what? Scott came back positive! Good (?) news is that Nora and I are negative.

Scott's pretty happy actually to be positive and have no symptoms, so that he can get this additional immunity to the virus. For me, I am now a full blown hypochondriac and question every little tickle I feel in my throat or ache I feel in my back. Nevermind that the weather has been super funky here and allergies are kicking up or that I have terrible posture sitting in front of the computer all day or that I've been testing out new Peloton HIIT classes, haha. Nora's feeling great so hopefully we are asymptomatic or have skirted this round. We have ANOTHER PCR test scheduled on Friday to check us again so will let you all know what happens.

So, we've been mostly home. If we do go out, we keep to ourselves and do something that doesn't involve being indoors or with people. Par for the course for us anyway so it hasn't felt like much change. We did some hikes and some cross country skiing, and a lot of hanging out at home and watching movies. Encanto and dancing to the soundtrack is big in our house right now!

Here's a few recent pics:

We've had dense fog warnings for over a week. We went high enough in the mountains to start to see sun breaking through the trees during a recent hik.

Pretty, right?

  1. Sucks that Evie and Scott got covid, but I'm glad it was mild and passed very quickly!

Happy new year!!

Goodness, it's already 2025! It's been a really long time since we posted!  We had a very lazy new year. We flew back from LA on the evening of the 31st so spent the last remaining hours of 2024 cozying up on the couch and then fell asleep before it even hit midnight! On New Years day, we slept in, cleaned up the house and then did a quick hike the next day. All in all, a good start to the year! Nora's new blanket hoodie. Cold and muddy trails. We're not in LA anymore! We hiked the Primrose trail that follows Coal Creek.

Eating on the road

With all the COVID restrictions on restaurants and Scott not liking takeout service, we've gotten pretty good at planning meals for days we are out and about. We've basically taken to tailgating... a lot! It is nice though that it means having a hot meal to warm up after a day of playing in the snow and I'm not going to lie - it is also a good excuse to eat instant noodles because it is fast and easy and warming!   For overnight stays, we end up doing instant pot meals like one-pot spaghetti or chili, or easy meals like a cheese plate or sandwiches. It does save on $ so that's definitely nice but man, I can't wait to go out to restaurants again! Beef and barley soup lunch at Mt Baker. Chillin' with Chili at Crystal Mountain. Beautiful but cold picnic in Wenatchee Little girl loving her hot ramen over Blewitt Pass Jook after sledding at Crystale Springs Chicken Noodle Soup in the snow at Salmon Ridge. Pho bowls under the ferry awning at Diablo Lake.

Nutcracker

I have fond memories of going to watch the Nutcracker at Christmas time and have been looking forward to when I can take my girls to watch with me. After Evie sat through Frozen on Ice so well, we figured she's old enough to sit through a ballet. We invited our pal Blakely and her mom Lauren to go with us, and we made it a girls trip. The little tykes did amazingly well! We got there early enough to grab booster seats for the two of them, and also splurged a bit on nicer seats to make sure they could see the dancers. They asked some questions throughout (like, what are those rats?) but for the most part watched quietly. Towards the end, Evie fell asleep but not before enthralled by the Sugar Plum Fairy and her sparkly dress.  I can't wait to do it again next year!  Pretending to be a ballerina. Palsy walsy. These two are the cutest! Mommy daughter picture Waiting for the show to start!
