Date Night

A friend of mine I haven't seen in a while texted to say that she had reservations for Canlis, her husband couldn't make it, she had a gift card to use up and did I want to be her last minute date? HECK YEAH! Canlis is one of the most iconic restaurants in Seattle and often cited as one of the best restaurants in the city. The restaurant is situated on a little perch right next to the Aurora Bridge, overlooking Lake Union and has lovely views. And, while they've been in business for 50 years, their new chef just got named one of Food & Wine's best new chef's of the year. Scott and I only went once a long time ago (before kids) and I haven't had a good excuse to go back so I was surprised and super stoked when she reached out.

Anyway, I put on a nice dress and my "date" picked me up and off we went. We had a 7 course meal (you choose 3, the chef brings out an additional 4) plus some drinks and all-in-all had a really lovely time. My fav was our starter seafood trio - a slice of kanpachi with shiso leaf, chawanmushi with geoduck and shrimp toast sandwich with scallops.

Thanks, Scott, for watching the kids while I went on date night!

Champers to start the evening

Seafood starter trio - yummy

Salmon was hiding beneath that lovely butternut squash soup.

Their famous Canlis salad

Homemade bread with apple balsalmic butter.

Duck 3 ways - grilled duck with squash, duck dumplings wrapped in chrysanthemum noodles in a duck dashi broth.

Halibut with snap peas sauce and mussels.

Palate cleanser of homemade greek yogurt with plum drizzle and olive oil.

Plum cheesecake 2 ways (NY on bottom, Japanese on top). Really lovely!

Happy new year!!

Goodness, it's already 2025! It's been a really long time since we posted!  We had a very lazy new year. We flew back from LA on the evening of the 31st so spent the last remaining hours of 2024 cozying up on the couch and then fell asleep before it even hit midnight! On New Years day, we slept in, cleaned up the house and then did a quick hike the next day. All in all, a good start to the year! Nora's new blanket hoodie. Cold and muddy trails. We're not in LA anymore! We hiked the Primrose trail that follows Coal Creek.

Glass art

We picked up our finished creations from the glass blowing class we took a few weeks ago and I think they came out great! Can you tell who made which one? Nora's sunset pumpkin, May's bluebird and Evie's snow pumpkin.

Trick or Treat!

Halloween this year was the quietest one we've had in 13 years! This was the first one we had without the girls! Both of them went to friends houses and left Scott and I to man the door. It was very quiet at home because the doorbell rang only 4x the entire night, but at least both girls said they had a lot of fun despite it being rainy and dreary out. Thankfully, they have finally learned to not trust Seattle weather in October and chose warm(ish) costumes!
