Belated Mother's day post

Another super late post! I need to catch up!

For Mother's day, we headed out to Orcas Island with our friends Kingsey, Kingston and their parents in tow. I had some work stuff to attend to, so the dads headed out a day earlier with the kids and then the moms met them there late Friday evening. Apparently, us moms missed out on an epic day of traveling and exploring the island.

The next day, we again biked into town, did a quick jaunt up to Mt Constitution, and then to Buck Bay to pick up some fresh seafood to bring home to cook. For dinner, we did a surf-and-turf meal with freshly shucked oysters, grilled steaks, steamed clams, and fresh spot prawns. SO yummy!

We ended the weekend with a nice hike up Turtleback mountain before racing back to the ferry. It was a nice, sunny Mother's day weekend!

4 kids ready to go? Check!

Ready for summer!
The kids biked around town. Apparently there were 4 different meltdowns, one from each kid.

Then they explored low tide.
And capped the day off with roasted marshmallows

Nora and I sat upstairs of the Coop for lunch while the others ate at the Farmer's Market.

Nice views from Mt Constitution.

Shucking lesson at Buck Bay.
Evie and Kinsey slurping some oysters. Evie probably had about 5 of them!
Shrimp babies! so good!

Dinner al fresco.
A hiking we will go!
Goofing off at the top of Turtleback Mountain.

Happy new year!!

Goodness, it's already 2025! It's been a really long time since we posted!  We had a very lazy new year. We flew back from LA on the evening of the 31st so spent the last remaining hours of 2024 cozying up on the couch and then fell asleep before it even hit midnight! On New Years day, we slept in, cleaned up the house and then did a quick hike the next day. All in all, a good start to the year! Nora's new blanket hoodie. Cold and muddy trails. We're not in LA anymore! We hiked the Primrose trail that follows Coal Creek.

1 week checkup

We took Nora to her one week check up today and guess what? We have a porker on our hands! She weighed in at a whopping 6 lbs. 5.5 oz. That's 2.5 oz more than her birth weight! They want the baby to be back at birth weight within 2 weeks so she beat that milestone pretty handily. Hooray! So far, she's been better than Evie at eating (she doesn't take nearly as long, although she falls asleep VERY often) but she's not as good as Evie at pooping. Poor thing always seems to have tummy issues - she's very squirmy and fussy when she doesn't burp or poop. The doc doesn't think it's a big problem though since she still has lots of wet diapers, but we'll have to keep a better eye on it now. We'll have another doctor check up (with shots!) next week.

Apple tasting

Over the weekend we popped into the free Apple Tasting and Cider Making at the Orcas Island Historical Museum and it was amazing! There had to have been 30+ varieties and all of them can be found locally on the island. We had a lot of fun sampling away, tasting new varieties that I've never even heard of like Albermarle Pippin or Kennebec or early Fuji or Ashmael Kernel. I hope they do this again next year. Who wants to go with us?
