Baby, it's been coooold outside! 

We had a cold front come through last week and the temps dropped into the teens in our neck of the woods. But guess what? We didn't stay in our woods and instead hopped across the border to Whistler again (we have a ski pass this season) where it was even colder. Easily, it was the coldest temperatures I've ever been in. How cold? When we arrived Friday night, our car showed 0 degrees fahrenheit. On Saturday, it was 4 degrees when Nora and I walked around the village at 11am, so was way colder when we went cross country later in the day and likely way colder up on the slopes where Scott and Evie were! Good thing it was sunny the whole time or it would have been miserable. Sunday was a bit better because the temps rose up in the teens. 

The weather has followed us back to Seattle where our roads have been staying so icy that school was canceled yesterday and had delayed start today. Very little snow on the ground but enough slush that it freezes over and makes it slippery out. Fun times this El Nino year!

Stopped by for some treats. I got a coffee toffee cookie that was chewy perfection.

Cross country trails were newly groomed, with sticky snow that did not make for good skate skiing.

We warmed up in the warming hut.

Close up of the icicles you can see in the window. First time I've seen icicles pointing IN to the building. They look like claws!

Meanwhile, Scott and Evie were up at the top skiing their hearts out.

Later that night, some of us warmed up in the hot tub in our rental.

On Sunday, I braved the mountain for a little bit. Compared to Thanksgiving, this was MUCH better snow.

Stop in Vancouver for lunch on the way home was a place specializing in freshly made cheurng fun. SO GOOD.

Happy new year!!

Goodness, it's already 2025! It's been a really long time since we posted!  We had a very lazy new year. We flew back from LA on the evening of the 31st so spent the last remaining hours of 2024 cozying up on the couch and then fell asleep before it even hit midnight! On New Years day, we slept in, cleaned up the house and then did a quick hike the next day. All in all, a good start to the year! Nora's new blanket hoodie. Cold and muddy trails. We're not in LA anymore! We hiked the Primrose trail that follows Coal Creek.

1 week checkup

We took Nora to her one week check up today and guess what? We have a porker on our hands! She weighed in at a whopping 6 lbs. 5.5 oz. That's 2.5 oz more than her birth weight! They want the baby to be back at birth weight within 2 weeks so she beat that milestone pretty handily. Hooray! So far, she's been better than Evie at eating (she doesn't take nearly as long, although she falls asleep VERY often) but she's not as good as Evie at pooping. Poor thing always seems to have tummy issues - she's very squirmy and fussy when she doesn't burp or poop. The doc doesn't think it's a big problem though since she still has lots of wet diapers, but we'll have to keep a better eye on it now. We'll have another doctor check up (with shots!) next week.

Poor little Nora! This little munchkin was running after her sister when we were out on a walk yesterday and tripped. She banged her face up pretty good, but thankfully it wasn't worse.  A big ole egg! she didn't like me trying to clean those scratches  breakfast thus morning! Lots of jam on her face to match her war wounds!
